(i) Give the character-sketch of E.R. Braithwaite (the narrator). Expected Answer:- E.R. Braithwaite, the narrator of the novel "To Sir, with Love" He is a black educated man. Being black he had to face diversity at great extend. He exhibits resilience and compassion when faced with racial prejudice in 1960s London. As a teacher in an East End school, he uses unconventional methods to build character and self-esteem in his students, emphasizing their personal development. Braithwaite's character evolves through the story, making him an inspirational figure who triumphs over adversity and discrimination through the power of education and humanity. (ii) Describe how Miss Philips justifies the importance of P.T. to Denham. Detective fix was always creating an obstacles in the way of Phileas Fogg. He tried to quit him by wrongly arresting him. Though he loses valuable time due to this arrest and imprisonment, he never lost the hope as a result he was able to reach his destination in time as they have earned full day due to international time line. When Fogg releases, he makes every effort to reach London on time. He arranges a special train from Liverpool. He does not quit when he feels that there is some faint chance of a win. This shows his fighting spirit, determination, and persistence.Finally, he comes out as a winner. He wins the bet as well as the love of a good woman. In fact, he proves that fortune favours the brave. So, it is rightly said, 'Quitters never win and Winners never quit. |

Mary Morstan's visit to the Lyceum Theatre with Holmes and Watson is crucial because she going to get the answers of mysterious questions like who is the letter sender?, why has he been sending pearls?, What's wrong done to her? She has been eager to know all these mysterious things that's why she has decided to visited Lyceum Theatre. It also introduces a romantic element between Watson and Mary, showcases the Victorian setting, and provides a critical clue that advances the story's central mystery in Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Sign of Four."
(ii) Write in brief the theme of the extract of the novel 'The Sign of Four'
In "The Sign of the Four," the Agra treasure brings trouble to everyone. It shows that wealth can be shallow and destructive. Many characters suffer because of the treasure: Bartholomew and the Sheik's emissary are killed, Tonga dies while escaping with it, and Small ends up in prison. Thaddeus and his father live in fear of strangers and a wooden-legged man. The treasure also creates a problem for Dr. Watson, who worries that Miss Morstan might think he wants to marry her for her money.
The story centers on how the treasure changes lives in bad ways. When the treasure is gone, things go back to normal. Small, who becomes a murderer because of the treasure, returns to being a prisoner when it's lost. Mary Morstan, who might have become rich, is no longer an heiress, allowing Watson to propose to her without worries.
