(i) The extract presents E.R. Braithwaite as a silent observer in 'To Sir, with Love.' Explain.(2)

Answer:- The extract from E.R. Braithwaite's novel "To Sir, with Love" presents a half-yearly academic report session where students from all grades showcase what they have learned thus far. The session is led by two students from Braithwaite's class, Miss Joseph and Denham, who represent different subjects.

Initially, Braithwaite's class was unwilling to change due to their backgrounds. However, through his innovative and novel technics, he transformed them and prepared them to change. This transformation is clearly visible through the confident way they represent their subjects during the session.

In this extract of the novel "To Sir With Love" E.R. Braithwaite is a silent observer but the students' actions and confidence dominate the scene. Dispite of being a silent observer the extract emphasise Braithwaite's significant impact as a teacher who observes his students' progress and achievements during the half-yearly report.

(ii) Justify how the half-yearly report of Students' Council was an important event for the teachers and students. (2)

Answer:- The half-yearly report of the Students' Council was important for both teachers and students. It let students show what they had learned and helped teachers see how well their teaching was working. Students like Miss Joseph and Denham led the session, which made them feel responsible and confident, especially for Braithwaite's class, who had struggled before.

There was also a doubt session where students asked questions and got answers from Miss Philips and Mr. Watson. This showed that what students learned was more important than what teachers taught, making it a student-focused event with everyone involved.

Thus, the the half-yearly report of Students' Council was an important event highlighted the teamwork between teachers and students, motivated all students, and built a sense of community. Overall, it was a key event that celebrated achievements, encouraged growth, and strengthened the bond between students and teachers.

(i) Compare the characters Passepartout and Detective.Fix from the novel Around the World in Eighty Days.'(2)

Answer:- The character of Passepartout and detective fix are the supporting characters in the novel. They have some similarities and differences. 

Both of them are loyal to their duties, one is a loyal friend and other is loyal to his duty. To fulfil their duties they both have undertaken the journey around the world. 

The difference between them is Passepartaout is supporter of the protagonist Fogg and Fix is against him. Passepartout solve the problems and Fix creates problems for Fogg. Thus, inspite of having the stark contrast with each other the both of the characters are more important for the story of the novel 'Around The World in Eighty Days'.

(ii) Aouda's acceptance of Fogg's marriage proposal is a pleasant part in the plot of Around the World in Eighty Days.' Comment.

 Answer:-

Aouda's acceptance of Phileas Fogg's marriage proposal is a pleasent part in the plot of the novel "Around the World in Eighty Days." It highlights Fogg's transformation from a strict, unemotional man to emotional and loving person. After accepting the marriage proposal from they have mutual respect and affection for each other. Aouda's suggestion of marriage leading Fogg to realize his mistake about the wager. This moment emphasises that Fogg's journey was not just about winning a bet, but finding happiness and love. The marriage makes Fogg the happiest man, showing that personal connections are more valuable than any adventure.

(D) Answer in about 50 words to the questions given below:

(i) Sherlock Holmes is the leading character in the extract "The Sign of Four.' Elaborate. (2)

In "The Sign of Four," Sherlock Holmes is the main detective. In the extract of the story, Holmes, Dr. Watson, and Mary Morstan go to the Lyceum Theatre. There, they meet Thaddeus Sholto, who takes them to his brother their house. 

In the course of time, Holmes is the main planner  to visit the theatre, he connect the incidents and correlate, and jumped to the conclusion. He uses his sharp observation skills to notice important details. At Bartholomew's house, he carefully looks at the crime scene, finding clues that others missed. This shows how good Holmes is at solving mysteries and why he is the main character in the story.

(ii) Narrate the case of Miss Morstan in your words.

Miss Mary Morstan's case starts when her father, Captain Morstan, disappears ten years ago. He was a soldier who came to London and vanished. Six years later, Mary began receiving a pearl in the mail every year from an unknown sender. Then, she got a letter asking her to meet at the Lyceum Theatre. Then she went to the theatre along with Sherlock Holmes and Dr.Watson. The trio went and tried to find out the unknown sender of the pearl. And sort out the mystery.
