(i) Write a character-sketch of the narrator E.R. Braithwaite in 'To Sir With Love'

✒️Answer:-

E.R. Braithwaite, the narrator of the novel "To Sir, with Love" He is the protagonist of the of the novell. Being black educated man,  he had to face diversity at great extend. He shows his  strength and compassion when faced with racial prejudice in 1960s London. As a teacher in an East End school, he uses unconventional methods to build character and self-esteem in his students, emphasizing their personal development. Braithwaite's character evolves through the story, making him an inspirational figure who triumphs over adversity and discrimination through the power of education and humanity.

(ii) Consider 'student-teacher relationship' as one of the themes of 'To Sir With Love'.

✒️Answer:-

One of the prominent themes of the novel To Sir With Love is The relationship between teachers and students. The very important part of the novel highlights the proceedings of half yearly report. This was lead by the students of the author who were not fit for learning but the narrator E.RBraithwaite not only teach them but also make them capable of handling the situation. This shows an improvement in students' conduct, it also increase in confidence level and courtesy-freedom and openness in student-teacher interaction. The author taught his students passionately and bring the desired changes among them. Hence the students teachers relationship is the prominent them of the extract.

There are other themes like racial discrimination as there is discrimination between balck and white, prejudice.

(i) Appreciate Phileas Fogg as the protagonist of 'Around the World in Eighty Days.'

Phileas Fogg, the protagonist of "Around the World in Eighty Days," is a remarkable character who embodies a blend of qualities that make him both relatable and admirable. His adventurous spirit is evident in his daring attempt to circumnavigate the globe in an unprecedented eighty days. His meticulous nature is apparent in his careful planning and precise calculations, which enable him to accomplish this feat. Fogg's willingness to accept challenges and his determination to see them through reflect his courage and tenacity. Despite his reserved nature, Fogg's honesty and straightforwardness endear him to those he encounters on his journey. His sentimental attachment to his wager and his loyalty to his friends demonstrate his genuine and caring nature. Thus, Phileas Fogg is a multifaceted character who captivates readers with his adventurous spirit, meticulousness, courage, honesty, sentimentality, and loyalty.

(ii) The most interesting part of the extract 'Around the World in Eighty Days' is its climax. Discuss.

✒️Answer:-

The climax of "Around the World in Eighty Days" is the most exciting part of the story. It's when Phileas Fogg, the major character, comes back and thought that he had lost the weger as Ditectve fix arrasted him and he lost a day. When Passepartout comes to know that they have got a day and finally they come to London and win the bet he made with his friends. He had to travel around the world in 80 days, and he did it just in time. It's a really tense moment because they're racing against the clock to get back to London. But they make it, and Fogg proves that he's brave and smart. It's a happy ending because Fogg wins the bet and gets the girl he loves.

(D) Answer in about 50 words to the questions given below

(i) Mary Morstan encourages Dr. Watson to get involved in her case. Justify the statement with reference to "The Sign of Four.'

✒️Answer:-

Mary Morstan is assertive and open about discussing her case in Dr. Watson's presence, indicating her trust in him and her need for his assistance. Her willingness to share details about her case shows her confidence in Watson's ability to help and her urgency to find answers. Additionally, Mary's insistence that Watson may prove invaluable assistance highlights her belief in his skills and intelligence. Furthermore, her request for Watson to accompany her and Holmes to the Lyceum theatre with appealing eyes and expressions indicates her desire for his company and support. Overall, Mary's actions and requests showcase her strong and independent character, as well as her reliance on Watson's assistance in solving her case.


(ii) Write the importance of various places such as 'Holmes' residence, Lyceum Theatre and unknown destination with reference to 'The Sign of Four."

Holmes' House in "The Sign of Four" serves as a central hub for the events of the story. It's where Holmes conducts his business, entertains clients, and often solves cases. The action begins and ends at Holmes' house, emphasizing its importance as a setting where key events unfold and where Holmes' character is most fully realized.

The Lyceum Theatre, on the other hand, is a place of transition in the story. It's where the characters gather for the party, confirm their identities, and are initiated into the mystery of the adventure. It's a pivotal setting that marks the beginning of their journey into the unknown and sets the stage for the unfolding of the plot.

Lastly, the unknown place, described as a questionable, forbidding neighborhood with an inhabited house, is a crucial setting that adds tension and mystery to the story. It's where the characters encounter danger and where the climax of the story takes place. This setting highlights the danger and risk involved in the adventure and adds a sense of urgency and suspense to the narrative.
